The Subjectivity Of Interpreters In Interpreting

The report is based on the author’s interpreting practice for the 10th annual meeting of Shandong Zhide Group and a series of activities in Liaocheng,Shandong from January 5 to 10,2020.During this period,the author mainly provided interpreting services for the three foreign experts attending the meeting and the relevant leaders of Zhide Group in an annual meeting,several banquets,seminars,and visits.The forms were mainly consecutive interpreting and escort interpreting.The author’s work aims at promoting communication,achieving the purpose of negotiation,and facilitating cooperation between the two sides.The report mainly includes task description,process description,introduction to the subjectivity of interpreters,case analysis,feedback and self-reflection.From the perspective of interpreters’ subjectivity,the report takes authentic cases from the interpreting practice as material,analyzes them from four aspects:cultural differences,situational limits,political issues,and interpersonal relations.During the task,the author adopted interpreting strategies such as inquiry,addition,omission,and revision to convey information and communicative intention of all parties,to realize the communicative purpose of all parties,and to complete the interpreting task successfully.Based on the analysis of authentic cases,the author hopes to share with MTI postgraduates,interpreting learners,and practitioners the reflections of the subjectivity of interpreters in practice and the strategies the author adopted.The author also hopes that her experience and lessons could offer inspiration to interpreting learners,and the author herself can optimize the use of subjectivity in interpreting practice and achieve better interpreting performances.
