| 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of the 2009 global recession.Experts on the world economy pointed out that with the outbreak of the financial crisis, western developed economies have entered a recession, and the focus on the world economy will continue to shift to emerging economies.Emerging economies’ growing contribution to the world economy has helped them weather the recession relatively well. However,The World Bank’s research report A Decade After the Global Recession—Lessons and Challenges for Emerging and Developing Economies(hereinafter referred to as A Decade After the Global Recession)released in 2019 found that if there is a deeper recession today, although emerging market and developing economies(EMDEs)currently have a more resilient policy framework to deal with it,their tolerance is less stronger than that of the pre-recession period of 2009.The report reviews the past decade, assesses macroeconomic and financial developments during this period, and provides lessons for emerging market countries to help policymakers prepare for the next global recession. The author selected the first chapter of the book for translation practice and completed the practice report. As a representative of emerging economies,China can learn from the past decade’s macroeconomic and financial development through this book.Policymakers should prepare the economy to mitigate the impact of adverse shocks, ensure that there is policy room to act when such shocks occur, and be ready to deal with unexpected situations. In the process of translation in this report, guided by the text typology of Peter Newmark,a British translation educator and theorist, and based on the communicative translation strategy, the author will strive to accurately convey the meaning of the original text, reflect the accuracy, rigorousness and professionalism of the source text as the report, and flexibly apply appropriate translation skills in combination with the context,so that the translation can be better accepted and understood by the target language readers.Through the study of the source text, the difficulties of this translation task mainly focus on how to deal with the non-equivalence of parts of speech, how to translate the long and difficult sentences in the text with accurate language, and how to achieve the cohesion and coherence of the text,so as to effectively convey the ideas and thoughts of the source text. The main contents of this report are divided six parts.Part One is an overall introduction of the translation report, including the reasons, significance and objectives of the project.Part Two is a brief introduction of translation task, including task source and task description.Part Three is the course of translating, including pre-translation preparation and translation process.Part Four is the study of translation difficulties, which focuses on the study of translation process from three aspects:words, sentences and texts. The difficulties mainly include the conversion of parts of speech, the translation of passive sentences and the translation of long and difficult sentences.Part Five is the solutions.Under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory, the author uses various translation methods to solve the problems in the part four.Part Six is a summary, which mainly summarizes the experience and lessons in translation,as well as the existing problems and deficiencies. |
