Teaching materials for Chinese as a foreign language are one of the mediums for learners to learn Chinese.The English translations of new words that are standardized,correct and rich in meaning as a specific component of intermediate Chinese textbooks are not only the main source of reference for Chinese learners’ vocabulary acquisition,but also Chinese learners.An important channel for correctly learning,using new words and understanding the ecological meaning behind the language.Linguistic ecology emphasizes the interaction between language and environment,which provides a new theoretical perspective for related research on Chinese teaching materials for foreigners,especially in the English translation of new words in Chinese teaching materials for foreigners.BRIDGE—A PRACTICAL INTERMEDIATE CHINESE COURSE(TWO VOLUMES)(hereinafter referred to as BRIDGE(TWO VOLUMES))was a highly comprehensive,practical and scientific textbook for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.In addition,the reasonable control of the number of English translations of new words in the textbook and the unique interpretation status of new words enable the theory of language ecology to be more intuitively presented and effectively integrated in the English translation of new words in the textbook.The specifics are mainly shown in In the study of the ecological context of the English translation of new words.This article takes the theory of language ecology as a new research perspective,and is supported by comparative research theory,interlanguage theory,and language translation theory.It focuses on the English translation of new words in BRIDGE(TWO VOLUMES)and uses literature from multiple perspectives.Research methods such as analysis method,interdisciplinary research method,statistical analysis method,comparative analysis method and questionnaire survey method,according to the classification basis of the internal and external language ecology research of the textbook,from the outside to the inside of the textbook,the upper to the lower level,the textbook The four parts of compiling philosophy,textbook catalog,text ecology and English translation of new words have been sorted out and analyzed in a targeted manner.The part of English translation of new words is mainly through the basic situation of the English translation of new words in the textbook,the analysis and statistics of the new words in English translation form to integrate the research of its language ecological representation,and explore the expression of the language ecological content under different English translation forms,aiming at Provide appropriate suggestions for the English translation of new words in comprehensive textbooks of Chinese as a foreign language under the ecological consciousness.The author found that the textbook only reflects six of the seven English translation forms of new words,namely,one-to-one English translation,one-to-many English translation,English translation of words + word meaning supplement and description,English translation of words + grammar,and words + pragmatic English.Translation,missing words +explanation and description English translation,and the language ecology under different English translation forms is different,mainly focusing on “one-to-one” and “one-to-many”English translation forms.Investigation and research have shown that English translation methods such as “word meaning limitation”,“marking collocation objects”,and “marking grammatical notes” are more conducive to Chinese learners to strengthen their understanding of new words with significant ecological representations.According to the above analysis results,the following aspects are related to the ecological characteristics of the textbook from the perspective of increasing the definition of the meaning of the word,clarifying the collocation object and use occasions and other incomplete equivalence relations and the use of transliteration and the lack of equivalence relations such as annotations,free translation and annotations.Provide a series of suggestions for the preparation of new words.
