Translation is not a mechanic process to convert one language into another,instead,translators should take into consideration of the role that they should play during the process,so that target readers can understand the deep meaning of the articles that the author intends to convey,and be informed and excited like the original readers.The translator,namely myself,took part in an internship at China Daily in July,2020,and was assigned to translate the article "How Nespresso’s Coffee Revolution Got Ground Down",which was published in The Guardian lifestyle section.The article introduced the birth and development of the famous capsule coffee machine Nespresso owned by the Nestle Group.The report is developed following the "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation"(CEA)framework and cites varies of translation theories such as Skopos theory and communicative translation theory to support each part of the framework.The "CEA" framework is proposed by Professor Li Changshuan and Shi Xiaojing in their book Meaning and Expression:Annotated Texts in Chinese-English Translation.Chapter one gives the overall background of the news translation in China,the significance of the report and its structure.Chapter two involves detailed description of the task,including the introduction of the project,lifestyle section in The Guardian,and the translation process.Chapter three further introduces different theories that cited to support each part of the "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" framework.In chapter four,the author presents typical examples to illustrate the translation process and the last chapter is the conclusion about the whole process,such as the mistakes that have made and some inspirations the author gained when doing the translation. |
