The textual function of informative text is to describe truth and facts in an objective way,and appropriate translation of such text type can help to convey information to readers effectively.The outbreak of COVID-19 has brought a great deal of newly published literature involving the pandemic,which may offer references to all countries and international organizations.Notably,the impacts the pandemic on people’s mental health should not be ignored,and governments and organizations have taken actions in response to enhance health workers’ and people’s awareness of mental health.Therefore,accurate translation of informative text about related responses and new concepts can be conducive to the exchange of research results in the field of mental health.This report is a on the English-Chinese translation practice of the informative text from the perspective of Text Typology.The source text(ST)is an academic paper on mental health – COVID-19 Mental Health Impact and Responses in Low-Income and Middle-Income Countries: Reimagining Global Mental Health,which was published in THE LANCET.On the lexical level,the ST contains specialized terminologies and expressions without standardized Chinese translation.The translator referred to parallel texts and applied techniques including addition to translate them.On the syntactic level,the ST contains long and complex sentences,and the applied techniques cover addition,division,restructuring,etc.On the discourse level,the ST is informative text with dense information,which means translator need to master related knowledge and fully understand the contents.Techniques including addition were applied on this level.This report is divided into five parts.In the first part,the background and significance of the translation project are introduced.In the second part,Text Typology and related practices are reviewed,and the linguistic features of the ST are analyzed.The third part describes the translation phase,where the translator lists specific examples and sums up translation techniques from lexical,syntactic,and discourse dimensions.The fourth part is the post-translation phase in which the translator applies self-proofreading,peer review,and expert review.In the fifth part,the translator concludes the translation practice as well as the experience,reflects on the shortcomings,and puts forward several suggestions to provide references for the translation of similar informative literature.
