A Report On English Interpreting Of CMMI Software Appraisal

IOT and 5G technology propose higher standards for software companies.In order to win the favor of the global market,Chinese software enterprises must meet the international standards.Being as a globally recognized standard for software enterprises,Capability Maturity Model Integration(CMMI)is jointly developed by The Software Engineering Research Center of Carnegie Mellon University and the National Defense Industry Association of the United States.Through the appraisers’ on-site reviews,CMMI appraisal evaluates the software companies and provides them with improvement solutions.This thesis is a practical report based on the author’s interpreting experience for Mira Culley,the CMMI High Maturity Lead Appraiser.It was carried out through consecutive interpretation,which involved conference speeches,interviews and group discussions.Daniel Gile in his Effort Models(EM)proposed that a successful interpretation could not be done unless the required efforts go within the interpreter’s available capacity.Typical cases are selected and analyzed in four aspects: listening comprehension,note-taking,memory and production.The author finds that pre-task preparations are the prerequisite for quality improvement.Through preparations for terminologies,related documents,background knowledge,and accent,the interpreter’s cognitive load in listening comprehension can be greatly reduced.Besides,proper interpreting strategies serve as guarantees that enable the interpreting process to run smoothly.The author dealt with difficulties in her practice by adopting a series of strategies and methods,such as:timely communications with the speaker,visual memory,amplification,and reduction.Lastly,post-interpreting reflection is an essential part during the whole process.The interpreter should communicate with the clients actively and ask for immediate feedback.Listening to the recordings is also a good way for self reflection and interpretation skill improvement.This thesis is a combination of interpretation theory and practice.The author hopes to provide guidance for CMMI interpreters in strategies selection and quality control.
