Interpreting is frequently used in the international conferences,and the online conferences are favored by people during the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic as it is not limited by time and space.Against this backdrop,online interpreting is increasingly gaining its popularity around the world.For the online interpreting,slides are an essential assistance for speaker to convey the message and attract the audiences’ attention.Nowadays,the online consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting with the assistance of slides are becoming the trend.With the Effort Models put forward by Daniel Gile as the theoretical basis and through studying an online interpreting,this report combined former researches and results with the author’s personal practice and experience and aimed at studying the influences of slides on each effort in the process of consecutive interpreting.Excellent interpreting task performance requires a balanced distribution of efforts on the part of interpreter,such as “Listening and analysis Effort”,“Note-taking Effort”,“Short-term memory Effort”and “Production Effort”,and these efforts were influenced by PPT to some extent.The author began with a critical review of the contributions and shortcomings of the studies of interpreting with PPT and the Gile’s Effort Models at home and abroad.Then,the author described the task and exact task processes.Next,the author analyzed the cases from the online interpreting based on the Effort Models,and aimed to explore the influences of slides on the efforts in consecutive interpreting.Finally,this report proposed specific strategies and suggestions to cope with the overloads caused by the lack of competence in the process of interpreting.The author found that,on the one hand,slides are beneficial to the interpreting.On the other hand,slides may disturb the interpreter and influence his or her performance.The author hopes that the analysis of the Effort Models in this report will offer a reference for young interpreters to understand the importance of efforts distribution and learn how to better allocate efforts and better take advantage of the PPT to assist them in consecutive interpreting. |
