Lost Masculinity-on The Male Images In Zhang Ling’s Novels

This article is based on eight novels by overseas Chinese literary writer Zhang Ling.Take "Full Moon"(1998),"The Crossing Side"(1999),"Mail Order Bride"(2003),"Golden Mountain"(2008),"Go to sleep,Flo,go to sleep"(2011),"Pain"(2014),"The Story of the Passing Years"(2015),"Lao Yan"(2016)as the research objects,with gender scholar Raven ·Cornell’s masculinity theory is used as a theoretical basis and an interpretation perspective,trying to analyze the masculinity types of male images in Zhang Ling’s novels,and draw the conclusion that the 21 st century female writer Zhang Ling’s masculinity is going to be lost,in order to explore both sexes The topic of gender equality in writing.The first chapter defines the concept,expounds Raven Cornell’s masculinity theory,points out the origin and definition of the term "masculinity",and explores Zhang Ling’s own gender consciousness based on the analysis of Zhang Ling’s life experience.The second chapter is based on Cornell’s Masculinity Theory,and analyzes the masculinity types of male images in Zhang Ling’s8 novels-namely "hegemonic male","conspiracy male","subordinate male",and "Marginal male" and the identification and embodiment of his masculinity in the novel text.Chapter 3 discusses the construction of masculinity in Zhang Ling’s novels from three aspects: the setting of absent plots,the use of body rhetoric,and the interlaced narrative skills of time and space,and once again demonstrates the diversity and possibilities of Cornell’s gender theory.It is believed that the male image in Zhang Ling’s novels is generally losing.The last chapter reflects on the cost of the absence of masculinity.Although the loss of masculinity makes the male images in Zhang Ling’s works lack sublime beauty,there is still a hidden masculinity between the lines,based on the male writing of female writers,consider the topic of gender equality in literary writing.
