Practice Report On The Proofreading And Translation Of The English Abstract In Journal Of NUAA(Social Sciences)

This report totally picks thirty-seven abstracts from four editions of 2018 and four editions of 2019 in the English Abstract of Journal of NUAA(Social Sciences)as the research object,themes of which are divided into such five categories as philosophy,politics,economics,management,legislation,society,language,literature,art,education,teaching and psychology.According to diverse translation errors coming from abstracts,the author made some modifications and revisions during the practice of proofreading and translation of abstracts,during which this report find that the translation variation theory proposed by professor Huang Zhonglian is of significant help to the proofreading and translation of English abstracts,especially its explanation of and instruction in the practice.The translation variation refers to a translation activity that the translator takes in related contents of the original work applying methods such as supplement,deletion,edition,summarization,reduction,combination and remodeling according to special requirements of specific readers under certain conditions.“Supplement” is to add information based on the original work,so that the translation can express the information and ideas of the original one more clearly.“Edition”,namely edit,is to rearrange the information of the original work in the translation one,so that the translation one can be organized and ordered.“Combination”,namely combining,is to combine the parts that have the same meaning in the original work,avoiding the repetition of the information in the translation work.“Remodeling”,namely modification,modifies not only the content of the original work,but also the form of the original work,so that the translation work is more corresponding to the reading habits of target-language readers.These translation variation methods play an instructional and expository role in proofreading and translation of abstracts.By doing the proofreading and translation of English abstract,the author finds that there are numerous problems about abstract translation,such as its original text,its grammar,its wording,the choose of terminology,the format of it and so on.For this reason,the editor and translator play an indispensable role in proofreading and translation of English abstract,during which the translation variation theory can be of great help to guide this practice.Therefore,after standardizing and revising common problems in theses of journals,this report expects that our theses in journals can exert their own influence on the international academic communication and are of great help to academic researchers.Furthermore,we hope that our academic papers can stand on an international stage,so that we can promote our international communication.
