Abstract/Summary:
With the rapid development of tourism around the world, many scholars have discussed guide interpreting, but there are few researches on religious tourism.Famen Temple in Shaanxi Province is the most legendary Buddhist temple of China, treasuring the the world’s only finger bone of Sakyamuni. This guide interpreting practice introduces the vicissitudes of Famen Temple, the architectural features and implication in this scenic spot, historical relics displayed in Famen Temple Museum and the stories about Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism and ten Bodhisattvas. This practice report could be divided into four parts: the introduction of interpreting task, the description of interpreting process, case analysis and conclusion. In case analysis, the author summarized the problems of omission, misinterpretation and repeated expression in the practice and explored the reasons for the deviation in the understanding of the source language and failure of deverbalization. This practice contains a large amount of information, including many Buddhist professional words and culture-loaded words. The author used the principles of acceptability, supplementarity, correspondence, flexibility and related strategies to deal with these difficulties in the process of interpreting. The author fully realized the guiding significance of the Interpretive Theory in the whole process of practice, and hoped that this report could provide experience for other Buddhist guide interpreting activities.
