The interpreting report describes the task the author performed in Hunan Museum.Given that the clients are usually foreign tourists,the convey of meaning or sense is even more important and,in some cases,reproducing an exact replica of the original text may not be even necessary.Therefore,the author chooses Interpretive Theory(IT)as the theoretical guidance and gives a brief introduction to the theory and the triangular model of interpreting it proposes.The author made full preparations before the actual task started,including material reading from the official website,creating a glossary,and analyzing parallel text.He also reviewed IT,especially the three steps of interpreting: comprehension,de-verbalization and reformulation.Still some problems occurred unexpectedly,such as unfriendly environment for note-taking,more unprepared terms and expressions and the difficulty to keep a balance between the speak and listeners.Based on the interpreting,the author focuses on de-verbalization and reformulation to convey the sense so as to fulfill to purpose of communication as proposed by IT.Altogether five methods are summarized in the thesis for both steps.To reach de-verbalization,the author summarizes and analyzes two methods,that are active process of information and note-taking in a more refrained manner.For better reformulation,the author summarizes three ways: syntactic restructuring,core sense extracting and supplementary explanation.In on-site interpreting in museum,the above methods allow the interpreters to capture the core sense of the speech when they cannot take notes as they usually do and provide better interpreting to English audience.According to the assessments from clients and the peer and self-reflection,the author performed the task well while he should also further improve the ability of de-verbalization and avoid grammatical mistakes.The author wishes the practice can be of some future reference for the interpreting in similar settings.
