Approaching Chinese-English Consecutive Guide Interpreting From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

The research is an analysis of the survey of guide interpreting in China, especially the current situation of Chinese-English guide interpreting and problems found in theories and practice of Chinese-English consecutive guide interpreting, and a presentation of principles and strategies to solve the problems in the light of Interpretive Theory. Living examples of Chinese-English consecutive guide interpreting are used for the analysis.With the continuous development of inbound tourist market, guide interpreters shoulder the responsibility to realize the modernization of Chinese tourism. However, there is no doubt that it is difficult for Chinese guide interpreters to finish this task judging by their current theoretical and practical capacities. Not enough attention has been paid to interpretation, Chinese-English interpreting and practical guide interpreting skills. All above leave much space for improvement of further research on guide interpreting.To solve these problems, considering guide interpreting is lack of theoretical guidance, the author summarizes three "faithfulness" principles of guide interpreting:be faithful to source language, to target language and to foreign tourists, which are based on Interpretive Theory and combines characteristics of Chinese-English consecutive guide interpreting. Under the guidance of faithfulness principles, the author comes up with four "independent" strategies for Chinese-English consecutive guide interpreting:simplification and integration, amplification, analogy and conversion, adaptation and alienation, sizing up the situation and meeting the demands of different audience. The research is expected to make some contribution to the development of skills of Chinese-English consecutive guide interpreting.
