In 2020,Covid-19 was spreading around the global. In the face of this remorseless disaster, the whole world was making effort to combat it.China media faithfully recorded the whole process of its fight against the epidemic in the documentary The Fight Against Covid-19.Against this background, this simulated consecutive interpreting practice has been conducted. The purpose of it is to apply the interpreting theory and skills to the on-site interpreting practice,to get familiar with the real process of interpreting,to find out shortcomings and to improve interpreting ability. The source language of it is chosen from the second episode of CCTV documentary The Fight Against Covid-19.This report records the three stages of this simulated interpreting:pre-interpreting,on-site interpreting and post-interpreting.In order to ensure the successful completion of on-site interpreting, before it,the linguistic features of the selected documentary were known,as well as a glossary and sufficient preparation work were made in advance.Although full preparations are made, there are still some unexpected interpreting difficulties in the actual interpreting process: interpreting of colloquial dialogues, interpreting of long sentences and interpreting of Chinese four-character idioms. At the end of this interpreting, these difficulties are recorded in detail. In the process of interpreting, three interpreting methods are flexibly used:amplification and omission, syntactic linearity and recombination. In the chapter of Case Analysis, some typical sentences are selected and analyzed. In the process of interpreting, shortcomings are also exposed: occurring many modal particles and pauses;some Chinese four-character idioms and professional terms not properly interpreted;and occurring information leakages when interpreting long sentences. However, this simulated interpreting practice generally goes well and the audience can understand the speaker’s speech accurately. In the following study, more practice needs to be made in these three aspects: reducing modal words and pauses to improve the speed of speech;accumulating more professional terms, idioms and words with Chinese characteristics in daily life;and increasing the speed and efficiency of note-taking.This documentary is aimed at giving the global audience an objective understanding of the process of China’s fight against Covid-19.At the same time, this report might provide practical reference for interpreting workers and learners.
