Abstract/Summary:
In the new era,cross-cultural communication between China and other countries is becoming more and more frequent. In this context,cross-cultural works and their translations have begun to emerge in large numbers.Cross-cultural works are the reflection of their authors? inner world, and the study on them can help us understand the authors? creative mood.On the other hand,back-translating them can not only test the translation quality, but also give an exploration of effective translation methods between languages.Lu Xun as a Translator: Lu Xun’s Translation and Introduction of Literature and Literary Theory,1903-1936 is written by Lennart Lundberg,a famous Swedish Sinologist. The book in English is a monograph on Lu Xun?s translation and literary theory, which not only gives a new description of Lu Xun from a foreign perspective, but also helps Chinese writers further go to the international stage,so as to enhance the international influence of Chinese culture. In order to increase the authenticity of content and make the book more readable,Lennart Lundberg takes use of a large number of direct quotations that are from Lu Xun and his friends.Namely,Lennart Lundberg acts as a translator as well as an author in the process of writing the book.On the whole, the translation quality of these direct quotations in the book is quite high, and their translation methods are very worthy of reference. Therefore, the author chooses direct quotations in the third part of the book as the material of this translation practice and gives a decision to study their Chinese-English translation methods from the perspective of back-translation through literal translation,so as to give a summary of effective translation methods and provide reliable guidance for future translation practice.Based on this translation practice, the author writes a paper that consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction, which focuses on research background, research objective and significance, and research content and thesis structure of this paper. The second part is the task process, which describes in detail the process of the whole translation practice divided into three stages, namely pre-translation preparation,while-translation work and post-translation correction. The third part is an overview of back-translation,equivalent to the literature review of this research. It elaborates back-translation and the related research from three aspects, that is,the definition, classification and function of back-translation.The fourth part is the main part of this paper. In this part, the author selects some typical examples of direct quotations taken from the third part of the book and makes a comparison between them and original text by using the back-translation method,so that she is able to make an analysis and summary of their Chinese-English translation methods from the perspectives of words and sentences. The fifth part is the conclusion, which gives a description of the reflection and harvest of this paper as well as the limitations in the research process, and puts forward suggestions for the related research in the future.
