| This report is based on the practice of English-Chinese translation of Chapter 22 of Human Molecular Genetics 5th Edition.This book mainly introduces the scientific principles of molecular genetics and its applications to the treatment of genetic diseases.The source text is scientific and technological with informative features.According to the theory of information efficiency elaborated by Feng Zhijie and Liu Chunyan,and combining with the characteristics of the source text,the author analyzes the translation difficulties from the reconstruction of information completeness and the reconstruction of information focus.The reconstruction of information completeness intends to deliver the information completely in the translation process,which is represented from two aspects: terminology and referential words;while the reconstruction of information focus intends to solve the problem of too dense information and lack of focus in the translation process,which is represented from three aspects: passive voice,vague semantic relations and information-intensive sentences.The author adopts two translation strategies,i.e.,domestication and foreignization,as well as the translation methods such as literal translation,free translation with an aim to achieve the reconstruction of information efficiency.Through this translation practice,the translator has got a better understanding of the textual characteristics and the translation strategies of sci-tech texts.The author hopes to provide some references for the translators in related fields. |
