This thesis is a practice report on the Chinese-English translation of Biodiversity and Conservation in Anqing Floodplain Wetlands, and the source book is supported by EU-China Biodiversity Project. This translation project is recommended by the supervisor and has acquired the authorization of the book writers. The author has translated the Chapter ten "Strategies of Wetland Biodiversity Conservation" and Chapter eleven "Wetland Biodiversity Conservation and Management Practice".On the basis of describing the translation process and analyzing the features of wetland-related texts, this report discusses the translation skills of wetland-related texts under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Originated in Germany in 1970 s,the Skopos Theory has formed its three rules namely skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule after development.Among the three rules of Skopos Theory, the skopos rule is the most important one and the other two are subordinated to it.The overall purpose of this practice is to promote and advocate China’s successful experience on wetlands biodiversity conservation and management to foreign countries. From the perspective of this purpose, the author follows the instruction of coherence rule and fidelity rule during the whole process.Besides, the author regards target readers as the focus of this practice, using different translation methods flexibly at the lexical, syntactic and textual levels,so as to produce a translation which lives up to the standard of target language and then achieve the purpose of translation practice. With the guidance of Skopos Theory and the differences between Chinese and English languages, the report analyzes the strategies and skills applied in this practice from the aspects of lexical, syntactic and textual levels.First of all,at the lexical level,by consulting the official website, dictionary, glossary, etc.,to obtain the authoritative translation and avoid misinformation; The four-character slogans are added with annotation so as to facilitate the understanding of the target language readers;replace the Chinese words that appear many times to make the English expressions more diverse and avoid excessive repetition;amplification and omission are used to deal with some words,so that the translation is more in line with the habits of the target language.Secondly,at syntactic level, some Chinese active sentences are converted into English passive sentences;add appropriate subjects when translating Chinese non-subject sentences;Adjust complex sentence structures. Finally,in terms of chapters, the word order of certain paragraphs is adjusted;find out the hidden logical relations in the Chinese paragraphs and add clear logical expressions in the translation;keep the style of the text specific to the target language, such as the use of thousands separators. The above mentioned translation methods can promote the target readers’ understanding of the text,so as to better achieve the purpose of this practice. The report shows that the Skopos Theory has a obvious guiding significance to the wetland-related texts translation, and facilitates the realization of the functions of the original text in the context of the target language. This report aims at making contributions to the translation and external publicity of China’s successful experience of wetland conversation and providing references for the translation of wetland-related texts in the future.
