A Report On The Translation Of Long And Complex Sentences In Business Contracts From The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

With the development of Sino-foreign trade,the translation of business contracts plays an increasingly important role.The long and complex sentences in business contracts are even more important and difficult in translation.The research object of this report is the translation of long and complex sentences in business contracts.This translation task is taken from a business contract translation project completed by the author in the professional practice stage.The main content of this task was the acquisition of the assets of a British steel company.From the perspective of variation translation theory,this report analyzes the translation of long and complex sentences in business contracts and summarizes the translation rules of long and complex sentences.Huang Zhonglian is the first person to propose and develop the translation variation theory.This theory mainly includes seven kinds of translation techniques and eleven kinds of translation methods.This report selects an agreement on company acquisition,involving arbitration,debt and other business contents.The author analyzes the grammatical characteristics of long and complex sentences in business contracts and combines five methods in the theory of translation: edited translation,narrated translation,translation plus rewriting,translation plus quotation and translation plus writing.In addition,combined with several methods of amplification,omission,edition,narration,condensation,combination,rewriting.The long and complex sentences with different contents were changed to different degrees,so that the information was effectively transmitted.And through the analysis of typical examples,the author illustrates the application of the five methods.From the perspective of the translation variation theory,this report combines the theory with the translation of long and complex sentences in business contracts by using specific case analyses.It demonstrates that the translation variation theory has guiding significance for non-literary translation,even for a more rigorous genre such as a business contract.The translation results of this time have also been proofread by professional business personnels,which has an important reference value for the translation of business contracts and the study of translation variation theory.
