| This is a practice report of English-Chinese translation. The source text “The Effects of Botulinum Toxin on the Detection of Gradual Changes in Facial Emotion” was selected from Scientific Reports under Nature Research. This study explores the influence of BoNT-A on detecting gradual changes of emotional facial displays. The source text is a typical medical paper with various terminologies and professional contents.Through text analysis and practice, the translator found that the translation process is worth exploring in the following three aspects:(a)ambiguous or vague expressions in the source text;(b)potentially confusing expressions in the target text;(c)the choice of logical focus in translation.Accordingly, this report proposes three solutions based on the logic translation theory proposed by Yan Desheng.First,it’s suggested to acquire comprehensive information(e.g.,searching in the Xiangya Medical Dictionary and reading cited references of the source text and parallel texts).Second,it’s suggested to improve the accuracy through logical analysis and interpretive translation according to general logic, translation logic and scientific logic.Last,it’s suggested to mainly employ sentences without subjects or impersonal expression in the Methods and Results section in English-Chinese translation to show objectivity while appropriately reproduce the active voice in the Introduction and Discussion section to reveal the responsible attitudes of the authors. This report is expected to be able to provide solutions to some difficulties encountered in translation of medical papers. |
