A Report On The E-C Translation Of Football Newsfrom The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the advancement of people’s living standards and the improvement of their health notion,various sports events draw lots of attention from the public.Football match,as an important sports event,has become more and more attractive to Chinese people.However,compared with that of European countries,the current level of Chinese football is still relatively low,which determines that the current football news in China is mainly in the “input” stage.At this stage,it is necessary to translate and introduce the football news abroad.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the present report takes the column in football section of Hupu Sports as an example to study the E-C translation of football news.It discusses its text characteristics and translation strategies,aiming to make a modest contribution to the practical research of English football news translation.Chapter Four elaborates the text features of English football news at three levels of vocabulary,syntax and discourse,and proposes relevant translation strategies guided by Skopos theory and combined with typical cases.From the perspective of the vocabulary translation,translators should choose the most accurate expression,and the translation of idiomatic expressions should follow the existing translation in China;the translation of substitute words should be flexible according to the different objects;the translation of terms and abbreviations should be carried out in the light of the international norms.From the perspective of the syntactic translation,if the translation lacks essential information,it is necessary to add additional information to help the readers understand;if the sentence structure does not accord with the target language idiomatically,it is necessary to carry out sentence translation through the strategies of “breaking up the whole into parts” or “adjusting the word order” based on the understanding of the target text.From the perspective of the discourse translation,if the structure and sense-group of English and Chinese discourse is different,the discourse structure should be reconstructed;if the English discourse is similar in structure to the Chinese one,it should opt for the syntactic linearity strategy.Analysis of the features and translation strategies of English football news texts deepens the understanding of the English football news texts while the translation practice tests the achievements made in the graduate stage.At the same time,the present report hopes that it can provide some reference for other English football news translators.
