| The intercultural communication becomes more and more convenient with the development of technology. News English, as an important information transmitter, plays significant role in the process of intercultural communication. As the international communication becomes frequent, a lot of English news appears in Chinese media. However, English news translation is faced with numbers of difficulties. News English has its own lexical, grammatical and rhetoric style features. The translation of news English should also reflect such stylistic features. Because of the syntactical, cutural and ideological differences between two languages, there are lots of difficulties in the process of news English translation.This paper intends to find appropriate methods for the translation of news English based on the Skopos theory. Chapter one is the introduction, it gives some background information about the news English. Chapter two introduces the definition of news and news values; it also briefly illustrates the classification of news. News can generally be classified into hard news, intermediate news and soft news. Soft news is lively in style and it writes events with deep emotional factor and lively style, Hard news mainly focuses on ideology, politics, economy, science and technology. News has the characteristics of timeliness, proximity, prominence and interests, among which the timeliness is the most important one. The main features of news English is also mentioned in this chapter, which includes its lexical feature, syntactical feature and rhetorical feature. Chapter three introduces Skopos theory as an effective theoretical tool for news English translation and explains why this theory is chosen and further expounds it. Chapter four points out the problems and difficulties exist in news English translation. News English has the characteristics of timeliness, new words emerges with new things every day. English news use new words with great expressive power frequently, sometimes, it is hard to find corresponding words in Chinese when doing translation, the translator has to find appropriate words in the process of translation. English news uses various kinds of rhetorical devices such as metonymy, pun, hyperbole, euphemism and so on, how to reproduce the style of the source language is a great challenge faced by the translator. the social characteristics make news touches the cultural layer inevitably, cultural factor translation is also a difficult point of English news translation. News has the characteristics of proximity, the translation of English news should also has strong readability, however, some translated texts in Chinese media are hard to read, which decrease the readers'reading interests and obstacle the intercultural communication. News includes some politics content and reflects a country's ideological tendency; the Chinese translation of news English should consider the relationship between the translator's political stance and the translated texts. By giving numbers of English news examples, the author proposes effective methods for news words, rhetorical devices and sentence translation based on the Skopos theory. The most important purpose of news is to inform the readers about the events that have happened. The language of news English should be objective, concise and vivid. News language is also'receivers'language and should be popular and easily accepted by the readers. The translated news should also carry the commission of information and follows the above mentioned language characteristics. However, the translated news will also differ from the source language in one way or another since the basic purpose of news is to transmit information to the mass readers. The translated version needs not to follow the same grammatical and syntactical patterns to the source language. There are lots of long sentences and complicated structure in news English, they confuse the Chinese readers and harm the readability of news. Chinese readers used to passive voice, more verbs and nouns in articles. Complicated sentences should be avoided in the translated text. Rearrangements of long sentences with modifier may sacrifice the foreign flavor of the original text, but considered the purpose of the news translation, it is negligible. Chapter five makes a conclusion about the paper. Due to the author's lack of news report work experience, there exists some limitation of this study and news English translation still needs further exploration...
