| In recent years,science fiction has gradually gained popularity among Chinese people,but there are few studies on the translation of science fiction.The quality of science fiction translation plays a decisive role in its development and sales in the Chinese market and even the world.The purpose of this paper is to take the translation practice of the science fiction The Automation’s Wife as an example.Skopos theory considers the translation as a human activity,conveying the information in the source text to the target text,breaking through the obstacles among language and culture.At present,translated works of science fiction are easy to see at home and abroad,while there are few specific researches on their translation.This dissertation is a translation report,which extracted from a science fiction novel,The Automaton’s wife,one of Ehasani’s works.The translation task is to translate the English source text into Chinese.This novel tells a British woman’s with supernatural ability,experienced amazing advantages in Africa.The protagonist depends on her aunt for a living,meanwhile she shoulders special task of discovering hidden creature,which could not be seen by normal person.Besides,the author also describes some funny love stories.All in all,it’s a successful science with fancy,scary and interesting imagination.It reminds me of the classic science fiction,Harry Potter,a world-famous literary work.As for the character of this text,the author conveys her ideas through simple and easy-understanding words and sentences.From the perspective of text type,it belongs to the fantasy novel literary work,which has a lot of environment description,character dialogue,psychological activities,strange imagination,simple language,exciting plot,simple and easy to understand.This thesis takes Skopos theory as the main string,analyzing the translation skills flexibly.The translator wishes to provide a reference for the following translation of this type.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the translator studies the strategy and skills of the translation of science fiction.First of all,this thesis reviews the translation development of science fiction in both home and abroad,and gives a brief introduction to Skopos theory.Then,by analyzing the cases,this thesis summarizes the science fiction’s text and language’s character.Specifically,this thesis analyzed the words,sentences and discourse of this novel.In the translator’s opinion,Skopos theory acts as a supportive tool for the whole process of translation.Only utilizes it in the translation,could the translator produces a successful target text.Hope to provide some references for the translation of other science fictions. |
