| With the rapid development of modern science and technology,science fiction,as a new literary genre,has been prevailing over the world and has enjoyed great popularity among the readers since its appearance in Europe.Translation of western science fiction reveals to Chinese readers the unique charm of exotic science fiction,and fascinating and interesting stories have greatly inspired Chinese readers’ curiosity and their thirst for knowledge.The source text of this translation report is an extract from the American short science fiction One,written by Nancy Kress,an American science fiction writer.The fiction describes the psychological activities and the living states of the protagonist,Zack,who,after an accident,is able to sense what people are thinking.Vivid characterization and extensive dialogue descriptions help to maintain the close connection between the original and real life.The fiction is a typical “soft” science fiction,which characterized by the features of literariness,scientificity and fancy,and intriguing the readers to think about and explore the humanity and ethics.The report is divided into four chapters.Chapter One is task description,which introduces the background information,significance and structure of the report.Chapter Two is process description,presenting pre-translation preparation which includes the analysis of the source text,process of translation and after-translation arrangement.Chapter Three is case study,which firstly introduces Skopos theory,the theoretical foundation for this translation report,and its major translation principles,and the implications to the translation of science fiction are also explained.Secondly,based on the analysis of the specific features of the source text,it explores the methods of translating science fiction by citing and analyzing the examples from the perspectives of conversation description,action description and psychological description.Chapter Four is the conclusion,which consists of the reflections on the translation project and the limitations and suggestions for further researches. |
