Lu Xun’s novel "Regret for the Past" is well known for its unique narrative style and rich spiritual connotation.It is a classic literary work in the history of contemporary Chinese literature,and is favored by many adapters.The adaptation works from Lu Xun’s " adaptation " are rich in genre,involving opera,film,television,opera,drama,comic book,novel and other artistic genres.There are also dozens of works.However,the academic circles have not balanced the relevant research on the adaptation works of the novel.Almost all the researches are aimed at the comments and discussions of a single adaptation work of "Regret for the Past",and lack the overall grasp and comprehensive comparative analysis of the adapted works of "Regret for the Past".The author writes this paper,which aims to systematically comb the adaptation works of "Regret for the Past",and discuss the characteristics of the adaptation works from the angle of the type of adaptation works.Finally,the author also hopes to explore the way of adaptation of Lu Xun’s works with the example of the adaptation works of "Regret for the Past".The paper is divided into five parts,including introduction,body three chapters and conclusion.The introduction part mainly combs the adaptation works of "Regret for the Past",analyzes the current research status of the adaptation works of "Regret for the Past",finds the existing problems in the research of the adaptation works of the "Regret for the Past" and introspects it.Chapter one: the change of time context and the adaptation course of the "Regret for the Past".The adaptation of the novel has been through the past 60 years since 1958.These adaptation works show different styles and characteristics in the new century.This chapter mainly investigates the characteristics of the times presented by the adaptation works of "Regret for the Past" in different times from the perspective of time.Chapter two: the analysis of the types of adaptation works of "Regret for the Past".This chapter divides the adaptation works of "Regret for the Past" into three categories according to their types: "transcription" adaptation,"compound" adaptation and "material based" adaptation,and analyzes the corresponding adaptation works.The "transcription" adaptation is the most faithful adaptation of the original works.It retains the most of the story elements in the original works,only deleting or adding few elements,with the smallest change range.The films,opera,comic books,Henan Opera and Kunqu Opera adapted according to Lu Xun’s "Regret for the Past" are representative works of the "transcription" adaptation works.The "compound" adaptation refers to the adaptation of two or more works with similar personal style according to certain logical combination and grafting together to make it a new work.The adapters who adopt the "compound" adaptation pay more attention to the grasp of Lu Xun’s spirit and contemporary interpretation.The drama "Wu Chang · Nu Diao" and "the night of blessing" are the products of the "compound" adaptation.The most creative adaptation method is the "material based" adaptation,which is the most different from the original.This adaptation only takes the original works as the material,then selects some elements from the aspects of characters,plots and thoughts to re process and create them,making it a new work."The late regret for the past--the handwriting of Juan Sheng","The life like a song--the handwriting of Zi Jun","Better to return back--the handwriting of Zi Jun" and "The handwriting of Zi Jun" are all adaptation works of this adaptation type.It is worth mentioning that the best-selling book "my first half of my life" created by Hong Kong writer Yi Shu inspired by "Regret for the Past" can also be classified as this adaptation type.Chapter three: the experience and Enlightenment of the adaptation of "Regret for the Past".This chapter takes "Regret for the Past" as an example to discuss the adaptation of Lu Xun’s literary works,which is divided into three parts: the judgment of the success and loss of the adaptation of "Regret for the Past",the problems of the adaptation of Lu Xun’s works and the significance and value of the dissemination of the adaptation of Lu Xun’s works.The author hopes to make a useful exploration on how Lu Xun’s works should be adapted by analyzing the success or failure of the adaptation works of "Regret for the Past".The conclusion part are mainly summaries and prospects of the adaptation of Lu Xun’s literary works.
