This translation practice report is based on Chapter 7 of Reflective Parenting,a popular science book in psychology.It is hoped that a more scientific approach to family education can be disseminated to Chinese parents,and that reflective parenting can benefit Chinese parents.This translation report explores the choice of translation strategies and methods in the process of English to Chinese translation based on Jef Verschueren’s adaptation theory.Verschueren considers translation as a process of dynamic adaptability between the text type as well as the linguistic structure and logic sequences of the source text.The purpose of such selection and adaptability is to make a smooth communication,so the target language is a product of the habits and aesthetic interests of the readers of the target language on the basis of reflecting the meaning and style of the source text.Adaption theory injects practical significance to guide the practice of scientific translation,improve the quality of translation and promote the popularization of knowledge.This practice report mainly starts from the linguistic structural adaptation.It combines the lexical characteristics with specific examples in translation,and explores how to use adaptation to the text type and linguistic structure of the target language in the actual translation process,and flexibly adopts translation strategies according to the specific context of cross-cultural communication.The source text is characterized with abundant terminologies,common words with professional meaning,common words with contextual meaning at lexical level,and some suggestive sentences,compound sentences and subtitles at syntactical level.Under the guidance of adaption theory,this report mainly centers on how to adapt to the text type which includes choices of psychological terms,adaptation to the linguistic style,the linguistic structure and logic sequence in the target language.With a better choice of translation behavior under the guidance of adaptation theory,this translation of psychological popular science may better serve Chinese families and promote the further development of parent-child relationship. |
