In recent years,as a result of COVID-19,Chinese language teaching has shifted to an online style throughout the world, and short-term Chinese language programs have shifted from learning in China to being performed remotely. The change in format has created new obstacles for cultural distribution, for which effective responses are urgently needed. After the outbreak of the pandemic,Beijing Foreign Studies University held an online short-term Chinese program in the form of distance teaching called " Immersion&Impression" for European college students in July 2021.During the summer camp, the researcher discovered that Chinese traditional culture dominates. As a result, the researcher decided to adopt questionnaires, interviews, and observations to analyze and explore this summer camp from the perspective of cultural elements and instructional activities.According to the research, this " Immersion&Impression" online summer camp chose relevant cultural components for teaching based on past school experience, spanning four layers of culture-material,system,behavior,and concept. The summer camp taught cultural elements through classroom teaching, lectures, themed activities, and movies, essentially meeting the participants’ expectations for understanding and enthusiasm in Chinese culture. However, there are certain flaws in the system. The cultural elements chosen for this summer camp do not fully fit to the learning characteristics of the participants, according to the findings of the questionnaire survey and the detailed analysis of cultural factors. The campers are European college students with a certain Chinese foundation, but the cultural characteristics chosen for the summer camp are better suited to teaching young people, and the majority of the content are familiar to the students and lack fresh ideas.Furthermore, the summer camp teaching has the problem of prioritizing the past over the present and being shallow. The emphasis on knowledge-based explanation diminishes the link between culture and language training and does not promote communicative awareness among students.Cultural factor teaching activities are also rather straightforward. In light of the foregoing circumstances, this paper offers helpful recommendations for improving this online summer camp.First, this paper contends that the summer camp should capitalize on its strengths while avoiding its limitations, and that while picking cultural components,it should consider the history as well as the present, focusing on the current and showcasing modern Chinese cultural features.Second,to deepen the relationship between cultural aspects and language teaching, the summer camp should delve deeply into the cultural meaning, place a premium on teaching communicative culture, and suitably mix language practice activities.Third, the cultural needs of the participating students must be tightly integrated. For example, given the features of European college students as a teaching object and the characteristics of online teaching, the summer camp should investigate deeper types of cultural teaching activities, such as live broadcasts,in order to achieve more optimal teaching effects. This paper is aimed to give some reference and support for short-term online Chinese programs by the case study of Beijing Foreign Studies University " Immersion&Impression" online summer camp for European college students.
