| Liaozhai Zhiyi and Yuewei Cottage Notes are both classical novels of the Qing dynasty that feature ghost stories.The former is written in a way that demonstrates the writer’s remarkable literary talent,but the latter adheres to the writing style of traditional literary sketches.which has resulted in the significant difference between the artistic style between the two.Both works depict different female images,and deliver value orientation and an outlook on females that are partially the same to the writers’.This paper classifies female images in both works by different species to analyze characteristics of these images.At the same time,representative female images from the two works are expounded and analyzed from the modern feminist perspective.This paper consists of four chapters,which can be generally divided into the following three sections.Section one includes Chapter one and Chapter two,which divides female images by species into humans and non-humans.On that basis,characteristics of different female images are discussed,respectively,and the value orientation delivered by Ji Yun and Pu Songling in their work,respectively,are examined.As to non-human female images,this section discusses about it from the evil and kind perspective.The human female images are studied from the perspective of family and society,and analyzed by their relation and identity.Section two is Chapter three,which focuses on investigating the similarities and differences of the outlook on females between Ji Yun and Pu Songling.The similarities are discussed about from their attitude toward females’ practice of filial piety and to jealousy and vulgarity of the wife.On the contrary,the differences are talked about,considering their outlook on females’ marriage and love,and their attitude towards females living at the bottom of society.Section three is Chapter four.In this chapter,modern feminist ideas and feminist criticism theory are employed for an observation of female images that can deliver modern independent females’ ideas.Meanwhile,implications and significance of the female images in these two works are explored. |
