Hongshan Culture is a significance archaeological culture in the northern and southern regions of the Yanshan Mountains. It was named after the Hongshan site discovered in Chifeng city,Inner Mongolia in 1935.It ranges from the remnants of the Greater Hinggan Mountains to the north of the Urjimurun River in the north,to the West Liaohe River in the east,to the coast of the Bohai Sea in the south, and from the upper reaches of the Selamuron River and Qilaotu Mountain in the west.Distributed in southeastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, western Liaoning Province and northeastern Hebei Province. In this thesis,we sorted out the main materials of Hongshan Culture and defined Hongshan Culture from the perspective of pottery.Taking Niuheliang site,Xishuiquan site,Baiyinchanghan site,Erdaoliang site and Xinglongwa F133 remains as typical remains, combined with other sites,Hongshan Culture is divided into four periods. This thesis argues that the first stage of Hongshan Culture can be found in Niuheliang site,Xishuiquan site,Baiyinchanghan site and Xinglongwa site. From the first stage to the fourth stage, the main distribution area of Hongshan Culture shifted from Selamuron River,as well as Laoha River to the Daling River. Its center moved from north to south. This thesis divides Hongshan Culture into three regional types from south to north, namely,Niuheliang type in Daling river basin and Xiaoling River basin,Xishuiquan type in Laoha river basin and Jiaolai River basin,Baiyinchanghan type in the upper reaches of Selamuron River.Degree of abundance of the three types is different in the four periods of Hongshan Culture. This thesis makes a new exploration on the periodization and regional types of Hongshan Culture, tries to dissect Hongshan Culture into the tubular pot system and bowl pot basin system, and divides zigzag line tubular pots into two categories:horizontal pressure vertical zigzag line and vertical pressure horizontal zigzag line, and distinguishes Hongshan Culture from the original archaeological culture in northeastern China and the archaeological culture factors of the Central China.
