Idiom is the essence of language,which is a special fixed phrase or short sentence formed after long-term use of language.The meanings of idioms are profound,and their actual meanings are implied in their literal meanings,rather than the simple addition of morpheme meanings.Animal-related idioms occupy a large proportion in the whole Chinese idioms,and the symbolic meaning of animals in different national cultures is obviously different.The particularity of animal idioms makes it difficult for foreign students who lack relevant cultural backgrounds to learn.International students have some difficulties in grasping the deep meaning of animal idioms,appreciating the commendatory and derogatory colors,and using them in communication,so it has always been a major difficulty in international Chinese teaching.Situational teaching method makes animal idiom teaching more vivid and interesting through the design and implementation of various situations,highlights the individual animal images and makes students feel fun.Understand the deep meaning and cultural connotation conveyed by the animal in the situation,and truly realize the significance and value of learning such idioms in the situation experience.Based on the basic theory of situational teaching method and the comprehensive use of literature research,questionnaire survey and classroom observation,this paper analyzes and summarizes the problems existing in the current teaching of animal idioms,and tries to establish a situational teaching model of animal idioms.The aim is to provide a reference teaching paradigm for improving the teaching efficiency of animal idioms for middle and advanced international students.The paper is divided into the following parts:The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the reason and significance of the topic selection,research methods and ideas,as well as the research status of situational teaching method and animal idiom teaching.The second part is an overview of situational teaching method and animal idioms,including the definition,theoretical basis of situational teaching method,the definition,origin and characteristics of animal idioms.The third part statistics the animal idioms in the syllabus and part of the comprehensive course teaching materials,and the teaching scope of animal idioms and cultural connotation analysis.The fourth part analyzes and summarizes the problems existing in the teaching of animal idioms from the perspectives of students’ learning and teachers’ teaching through the comprehensive investigation of questionnaire and classroom observation.The fifth part is the focus of this paper,analyzes and discusses the necessity and advantages of situational teaching method applied in animal idiom teaching,and elaborates the specific combination of situational teaching method and animal idiom teaching,including the basic principles and application methods that should be followed in teaching,so as to prepare for the later teaching design.The sixth part selects a text from the advanced synthesis of Developing Chinese,aiming at the two animal idioms “The old man lost his horse” and “playing the lute to a cow” in the text,and carries on the specific teaching design with the situational teaching method as the main teaching method.The seventh part is the reflection and suggestion of teaching design.Through this practice research,the advantages and disadvantages of situational teaching method in the teaching of animal idioms are obtained,and the corresponding reference suggestions are put forward.The last part is the conclusion,which summarizes and summarizes the research content of the whole paper,and reflects on the shortcomings.
