| There has been a new upsurge in sports activities with the support of the Chinese government.Sports news has also attracted widespread attention.In recent years,many international sports events have been held frequently,which increased Chinese readers’ interest in international sports news.So how to facilitate the spread of international sports news through translation is worth discussing.This thesis analyzes the translation of sports news based on Lasswell’s 5W Theory,with twelve sports news items about Tokyo Olympic Games from The Guardian as the translation material.The translation of sports news can be regarded as a means of communication.According to Lasswell’s 5W Theory,the translator,translated text,social media and target readers play important roles in the communication effect of translation.Through the translation practice and case analysis,it is concluded that the translator undertakes the tasks of spreading and translating the original news in the whole communication process.Amplification and omission are helpful for selecting information from the received news.In regard of the translated text,the witty language style and concise structure should be consistent with the original text by employing similar rhetorical devices and acceptable sentence structures.On the social media,it is suggested to use vivid news titles,novel text forms and buzzwords in the translation to attract more readers.Reader-oriented translation requires the domestication strategy and necessary explanation to break down cultural and jargon barriers.The optimal communication effect of translation can be achieved by adopting the above-mentioned strategies. |
