A Report On The Translation Of Sports News From Foreign Media

As people's living standards and health awareness are improving,sports have become an indispensable part of people's lives.As more and more Chinese people feel interested in sports,they often get information about sports news from various media.Western media often give reports on international sports events,which not only help Chinese people know more about sport events worldwide,but also provides experience for the development of sports in China.Therefore,translation practice and research of sports news from foreign media have a high practical significance.This translation project has selected over a dozen of sports news from western media as the source text.Based on the translation project,this report is written in five chapters: chapter one is task description,which introduces the general information about the selected text,including text sources,the number of words and dates of publication,and also explains the practical significance of this project.Chapter two is process description,describing the process of preparation,translation and proofreading of the project.Chapter three is text analysis,which makes an in-depth analysis of sports news at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.Chapter four is case study,which firstly gives a brief introduction to the Text Type Theory;then,based on the analysis in chapter three,it explores the translation of sports news from three perspectives,pointing out that the translation of sports news should aim at conveying the original meanings of the original text accurately and focusing on the idiomaticity and fluency of the translated text,trying to conform to the grammatical rules and expression convention of Chinese without losing the original intentions of the original text.Chapter five is summary,which summarizes the experience gained in the process of translation and offers some specific suggestions for future translation of sports news.
