Pop Art was born in the 1950 s and 1960 s,when Western society had entered the era of high media while consumerism was prevalent.Consumerism tends to show the social existence of man through the creation and use of new media materials,where consumption and media are closely linked and have gained unity in the display of contemporary art.Pop art follows the characteristics of Dadaism,under the joint action of the media environment and consumerism,it presents a different media characteristics and art style from the traditional art form,pop art as a popular art abuse,has a profound impact on the modern and contemporary worldwide popular culture,has a unique position in the history of art.However,due to the inevitable commodification process in the creation process of Pop’s artworks,mechanized mass production,and the use of daily media materials,the boundaries between Pop art and life have been erased.Pop art,which is shallow,inexpensive,ubiquitous and forgotten,is often considered a vulgar art,under the traditional artistic value assessment,its depth and value have been questioned.In summary,how to study the media function of Pop Art,so as to evaluate this art form more completely and comprehensively,has become the key to this article.This paper attempts to take the media as the research angle,use the relevant media theory,combine the social background of consumerism and high media era,and explore the particularity of pop art in the function of media.With the combing of specific pop art works,we will explore the development of pop art and its reflection on its own social value.In order to complete the transformation of the value judgment standard of pop art from artistic depth to its media social function,study its media function,and enrich the evaluation angle of pop art value.
