| In today’s globalized world,economic development is inseparable from international trade and cooperation,and international cargo transportation is a vital part of international trade.Compared with land transportation and air transportation,marine transportation has obvious advantages like less restrictions and high flexibility.It is the most important mode of international cargo transportation.Ship,as the only means of marine transportation,has many types,such as bulk carrier,general cargo ship,container ship and oil tanker.And different ship types have different manuals to illustrate their rules and precautions.However,in international trade,a manual in a single language can no longer meet the needs of globalization.In order to provide correct guidance for domestic crew and ensure personal safety and cargo safety,manual translation has become an indispensable part of shipping business.Therefore,the study of manual translation is of great significance.Based on the Bulk Carrier Manual translated by the author during the internship in Shanghai Huayang Maritime Tech Co.,Ltd.,this translation practice report analyzes the types of the text,the difficulties in the translation process and the translation strategies.This translation practice report consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the project background and analyzes the text types;the second chapter describes the preparation before translation,the execution during translation and the revision after translation according to the translation process;the third chapter analyzes the lexical and syntactic characteristics of the text,and discusses the difficulties in translation and the corresponding translation strategies from these two levels,among which the lexical level centers on specialized terms,abbreviations,modal verbs and noun phrases,while the syntactic one on conditional sentences,passive sentences and long difficult sentences;the last chapter is the summary of the report. |
