A Practice Report On The Chinese Translation Of Paul Smith Group Holdings Limited Annual Report And Financial Statements

In the increasingly globalized economy,companies have frequent exchanges and cooperation and the exchange and reference of enterprise data has become an essential part of enterprise development.The knowledge about the data of enterprises is of great significance for the understanding of their stage of development and the future orientation.Financial reports are a crucial channel for mutual understanding between enterprises so that they can then promote the reasonable distribution of social resources.In addition,according to the relevant social laws and regulations,modern enterprises have the obligation to publicize their annual operating conditions and fund distribution to the society,which means that the regular publication of financial reports is also the enterprise’s fulfillment of social responsibilities.In the process of modern enterprise operation,the data can reflect the business conditions of the enterprise to bolster its future development.What’s more,with the deepening globalization,it is increasingly urgent for enterprises to strengthen the exchanges across borders.However,the language barriers pose a major obstacle to the international exchanges and cooperation among enterprises.The yearly financial report plays a pivotal role in facilitating the process,whose translation is thus of great significance.This translation practice report derives from Paul Smith Holding Group Ltd.’s annual report and financial statements,totaling more than 14,000 words.Based on the text,with reference to the Skopos Theory,the author elaborates on the text type and characteristics of the financial report,selects the typical cases for the analysis of word and sentence translation and summarize the effective translation strategies.There are five chapters in this translation practice report.The first chapter is a brief introduction to the translation practice project,the second chapter introduces the translation process of the material text in this translation practice project.This chapter is divided into three parts,pre-translation preparation,in-translation process and post-translation review.The third chapter focuses on the translation theory called Skopos Theory and includes the connection between the three principles of the theory and this report.Chapter Four is the case analysis in the translation project.The author details the analysis of lexicons and syntax,analyses the difficulties encountered in the translation process and proposes the corresponding translation methods.Chapter Five is the summary of the experience of this translation practice.
