This report introduces the interpreter’s practice of interpreting for a friend from Pakistan at the Inner Mongolia Redwood Art Museum on September 10,2021.The whole interpreting process lasts one hour and fifty-three minutes.With the permission from the foreign friend and the museum guide,the interpreter filmed and recorded the process and transcribed it into a written text.Finally,this interpreting practice report was composed with the first-hand corpus from the practice.This practice report focuses on preparations,the difficulties encountered in interpreting and the methods taken by the interpreter.Before interpreting,the interpreter collected information related to redwood culture and Chilechuan culture and established a terminology database.Specifically,the interpreting difficulties encountered by the author including the interpretation of culture-loaded words,wood-related terms,selection of redundant sentences of the museum guide,and the interpretation of long sentences and historical allusions.In view of such difficulties,the interpreter took the following translation methods in the process of interpreting,namely,explanation,transliteration,omission,restructuring,paraphrase and literal translation,which helped the interpreter successfully complete this interpreting task.This report is a comprehensive summary of this practice.Through the analysis of the transcribed text,this report is expected to provide some references to more museum interpreters. |
