As a practice report on Chinese to English consecutive interpreting,this report describes one consecutive interpreting of the commentary for History of Northern Frontiers exhibition hall in Inner Mongolia Museum and selects representative interpreting in the practice as the examples in case analysis.The interpreting methods and skills that can be adopted in escort interpreting in the museum are presented through case analysis.Various problems that may occur in museum escort interpreting and corresponding solutions are also presented in case analysis.In reviewing the task process,the report focuses on the pre-interpreting preparations and the interpreting process.The different works needed to be completed in the pre-interpreting preparations are described in detail;the whole process of interpreting practice and some contingency plans are presented in the interpreting process.In the chapter of case analysis,the report selects some typical cases.Through case analysis,the report mainly analyzes the interpreting methods and skills of omission,addition,restructuring,transliteration plus explanation and conversion which are commonly used in this practice;in terms of deficiencies in this practice,the report mainly analyzes the misinterpretation,information loss,frequent uses of pet phrases and failure in interpreting some proper names.Through the description of the task and case analysis,some conclusions can be drawn as follows: 1.Adequate preparations before interpreting are a guarantee of the success in the interpreting task.2.In the task of escort interpreting in the museum,the adoption of interpreting methods and skills,such as omission,addition,restructuring,transliteration plus explanation and conversion,is conducive to the effective interpreting acceptable to the target audience.3.Contingency plans specific to the task should be made in advance to effectively deal with the challenges in the on-spotinterpreting.
