| This is a practice report based on the author’s guide interpretation experience,in which the author acted as an interpreter for a foreign student who is from Zimbabwe,at Inner Mongolia Museum of Natural History in Hohhot on September 18,2020.The entire process of interpretation lasted one hour and forty-two minutes.With the permission of the Chinese tour guide and the foreign visitor,the interpreter recorded the process and transcribed it into a text.On the basis of it,the author has completed this practice report.This report focuses on the corresponding interpreting methods and skills used to deal with the interpreting difficulties in the practice.The difficulties include interpreting proper words,sentences and numbers.To be specific,the difficulties mainly lie in interpreting the names of places,terms related to the Mongolian medicine and long sentences,coping with the redundancy of the Chinese tour guide’s presentation,memorizing numbers,and converting the measurement units of numbers.To cope with these difficulties,the interpreter adopted some interpreting methods and skills in the interpreting practice,such as explanation,transliteration,omission,division,repetition plus note-taking and literal translation.It is hoped that this report can accumulate experience for the author and provide references and insights for the relevant interpreting practice. |
