Yun Shouping,named Nantian,alias Dongyuansheng,Dongyuan Caoyi,Ouxiang Sanren,Baiyun Waishi,etc.,was born in Wujin,Changzhou,Jiangsu.He is an outstanding calligrapher and painter in the history of Chinese painting,especially famous for his paintings of flowers from life.He took Xu Chongsi of the Northern Song Dynasty as his ancestor and called it the "Boneless School".The "boneless"sketch flowers created by Yun Shouping appeared in the flower beds of the early Qing Dynasty with a brand-new appearance,injected new vitality into the flower and bird painting circles,and tried to reverse the decadent trend of sketch flower paintings since the end of the Ming Dynasty."The school’s moliu swept it away and played the role of "rising and declining".Its painting style is clear and elegant,the coloring is elegant,and it has its own style.It created the "Yun School" and is also known as the "Changzhou School".His painting thoughts are concentrated in the"Postscript to Nantian Paintings" and "Ouxiang Pavilion Collection",and most of his thoughts can reflect his study and thinking on ancient painting and painting theory.This article mainly discusses the characteristics of Yun Shouping’s boneless flower and bird paintings,the aesthetic orientation and the inspiration to the author’s creation.
