Law And Love In Judgement

King Lear is one of Shakespeare’s four tragedies.Although its solemn and grand art scene in the history of literature left an indelible mark,the interpretation of its jurisprudence is not very rich.In King Lear,the opposition between law and love runs through the whole story,and almost reaches a climax in the sparks of the collision of three trials,providing a new solution to the long-standing dispute over the relationship between law and irrationality.Starting from the background of the birth of King Lear,this paper analyzes the life formed by the interaction between law and love in King Lear to rethink the problems of modern law causing by the lack of humanization and the benign relationship between law and love,hoping to find a just way to integrate law and love and making the sunshine of fairness and justice warms everyone’s heart under the rule of law.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part introduces the creation background of King Lear and the content of this thesis.King Lear was born in the tragic stage of Shakespeare’s works,which coincided with the regime change of British government and the prevailing trend of humanism.And the social environment at that time had a significant influence on Shakespeare’s tragedy creation.Thus,combing this part of the content is conducive to grasp of the thoughts that Shakespeare wants to convey,and then provides background materials for the following interpretation.The second part is text analysis.The interpretation of the three trials in King Lear presents the both intertwined and opposed relationship between law and love,and arouse the reflection on the characteristics of law and love.The third part is the reflection on the relationship between law and love.This part firstly takes the transformation of king Lear and Edmund as the clue to find the shortcomings of law and love respectively;Secondly,the value of love is clarified through the interpretation of love,paving the way for the reconstruction of the relationship between law and love.Finally,based on the objective analysis of the benign relationship between law and love,and with the help of relevant theories of “poetic justice” to discuss the connection between law and love,the author hope to give more possibilities to the relationship between law and love.
