The Research On Korean Nation-building

In the field of international relations,many scholars hold different opinions on "Nation-Building" and there are many published researching works about it.However,there has been no accepted definition and measurement standard in the research topic of "Nation-Building".The author believes that "Nation-Building" is an indispensable stage in the formation and development of a Nation-State.Based on the theoretical and practical significance of the topic,as well as the author’s personal research interest,this study selects South Korea as the research object,selects the "Nation-Building" policies of the successive governments since South Korea has founded,and answers the following two research questions: does there exist "Nation-Building" in South Korea? If so,how does South Korea carry out the process of "Nation-Building" at home? This study adopts the method of diachronic internal comparative case study,which finds that South Korea has been carrying out "Nation-Building" since 1948.However,the policy of "Nation-Building" in different stages implemented by different South Korean governments in different periods has gradually changed from single policy to diversified policy,and the overall policy effect is to enhance the tolerance of people and expand the diversity of society in South Korea.It can be seen that "Nation-Building" for a Nation-State,in a large extent,is a long-term,phased,and unfinished national process,which needs the common coordination of state and people,which could better form a unified national identity and common national identity in different domestic citizen groups.
