Practical Exploration Of Social Work Involved In Services For The Families That Disabled People Cared By The Elderly

China is one of the countries with the largest number of disabled people in the world,the care of disabled people has always been the focus of social attention.With the development of socio-economic and the continuous improvement in medical care,people’s living standards have improved significantly,the life expectancy for persons with disabilities is also increasing.Meanwhile,the age of caregivers for persons with disabilities increases.More and more caregivers enter the life stage of old age or even high,forming a unique phenomenon that the elderly care for persons with disabilities.Compared to the general disabled family,A family that disabled people cared by the elderly,not only experiencing the ageing of caregivers,but also need to address the various situations of disabled people.Facing the double risk of "aging" and "disability",it is under great pressure of life and needs the attention of all walks of life.This study is a field research,using case study and participant observation to conduct research,and collecting data through unstructured interview,semi-structured observation and self-administered questionnaire.This study takes Guangzhou B Street as an example,focuses on the families that disabled people cared by the elderly.The present situation and needs of the families are investigated by unstructured interview method and semi-structured observation method.The study found that families that disabled people cared by the elderly have the following demands: enhance the capacity of persons with disabilities,relieve family care stress,help family to obtain medical and rehabilitation services,assist family in planning for the future,expand family social support network,and participate in community affairs to integrate into the community.Under the guidance of the empowerment theory and social support theory,the study adheres to the core concept of social work-"Helping People to Help Themselves",explore service strategies that social work involved in the families that disabled people cared by the elderly by skills training for the disabled,strengthening the support within the family,guiding the family to formulate future plans,setting up a platform for family mutual assistance,providing opportunities for community participation,linking and integrating social resources.Service effectiveness are as follows: excavates the potential of the disabled,promotes the upbringing consciousness of the caregivers,alleviates the care pressure of the family,strengthens the social support network of the family,and promotes the community integration of the family.However,there are also some shortcomings,such as insufficient propaganda and advocacy,insufficient function of social work,lack of innovation in the integration of resource links,and the participants in the service are relatively single.The main findings of this study include that service needs of the family that disabled people cared by the elderly are diverse and need to be comprehensively assessed,service strategies for the families that disabled people cared by the elderly are plural and the integrated approach of social work intervention in the families is applicable,and social work involved in the services for families that disabled people cared by the elderly has certain effect advantage.The limitations of the study are the scientificity and accuracy of evaluation need to be improved,and the breadth and depth of the study needs to be enhanced.By summing up service experiences,this study proposes the following research recommendations.First,enhance the social attention to the families that disabled people cared by the elderly.Second,promote the improvement of relevant policies.Furthermore,develop respite services vigorously to relieve care stress.Finally,explore cross-professional service model actively.
