Research On Community-Based Rehabilitation Of The Mentally Disabled Under The Strengths Perspective

It is an important sign of social civilization to pay attention to the disadvantaged groups.People with intellectual disability are often in a more vulnerable position in the society due to their intellectual level is obviously lower than that of ordinary people and their disorder in adaptive behavior.Although people with intellectual disabilities cannot be cured,they can still recover functionally through professional community rehabilitation services,improve their lives,enhance their ability to survive and develop themselves,reduce the burden on their families,and then fully participate in social life to show the good outlook of the disabled.In this study,moderate and mild mentally disabled people in the warm home of Guangming street,Beijing,were taken as the research objects.Under the guidance of the strengths perspective,data collection methods such as interview method,participant observation method and other data collection methods were adopted to assess the community rehabilitation needs of mentally disabled people,and the goal was to meet the independent living guidance and social communication needs of mentally disabled people.Taking the three core elements of PRC from the strengths perspective as the intervention framework,social workers used group work methods and professional skills to intervene in the community rehabilitation of the mentally disabled from three dimensions:resource assessment(R),capacity building(C)and enhancing the possibility of community rehabilitation(P).The research finds that:first,the mentally disabled people who seem to have exhausted resources have multiple advantages in community rehabilitation from both the subjective and environmental aspects.Second,people with intellectual disabilities have the ability to learn,grow and change.Through certain training,their ability will be improved.Third,social workers can enhance the possibility of community rehabilitation by giving people with intellectual disabilities positive and reasonable expectations.Finally,this paper discusses the applicability and explanatory power of the strengths perspective,the role of social workers,professional relations and skills,and the shortcomings of the research,so as to provide reference for the research on the intervention of social work in the community rehabilitation of the mentally disabled.
