A Study On Women’s International War Crimes Tribunal In 2000

In the Second World War,the Japanese Army established a complete systematic regime of sexual slavery system.It was not until the 1990s that the victims of "comfort women" broke silence and bravely stood out to tell their stories as victims,and accused Japan of the national criminal act of war sexual violence.However,even more than half a century after the Second World War,Japan still has made no action of confession and apology.Victims have encountered various difficulties and challenges in seeking apology and war compensation.In addition,the international community and international organizations launched various investigations and formally defined the "comfort women" system as military slavery.In order to challenge the idea that wartime sexual violence against women was normal,morally determine the nature of the national crime of Japan’s military sexual slavery,Women′s International War Crimes Tribunal was held in Tokyo Japan,in December2000.Drawing on the plot to the preparation and development of Women′s International War Crimes Tribunal,this paper describes the preparation process of Women′s International War Crimes Tribunal and introduces the composition of the tribunal: preparation personnel and organization,judges,plaintiffs,prosecutors of various countries,and the general situation of the tribunal.Then it analyzes the indictment and judgment of the tribunal,and introduces the trial process of the tribunal,including the trial in Tokyo,the final trial in Hague and the international hearing.This paper aims to explore the historical value of this International Women’s movement facing the issue of "comfort women".Finally,it discusses the influence and significance of omen′s International War Crimes Tribunal.The court punished the wartime sexual violence,maintained gender equality,preserved the historical memory of the victim countries,strengthened the way to claim compensation,at the same time,it triggered hot spots in the international community,promoted numbers of resolutions,gave great comfort to the victims and helped them release their suffering for many years.Although this is only a mock court trial and has no prosecution force,it has played a role in promoting and supporting the liquidation of the atrocities of war,the maintenance of human justice,the protection of women’s human rights,and the restoration and improvement of women’s status.
