| The China-US-EU strategic triangle is an important factor affecting the development and changes of the international landscape.Nowadays, the strategic competition between China and the United States is intensifying, geopolitical conflicts are frequent, and the competition and cooperation among China, the United States and Europe are becoming more and more complicated.Based on the need to maintain its global hegemony, the United States will restructure the transatlantic dialogue framework. This will certainly affect future international relations.U.S.-European relations are a very important part of the U.S.alliance system. After the end of the Cold War,the support of European allies was an indispensable strategic resource for the United States to dominate the world. However, after Trump took office,he changed the U.S.tradition of attaching importance to allies, adopted a unilateral and isolationist attitude in complex international affairs, and launched all-round competition with China. While Sino-US relations have taken a sharp turn for the worse,US-European relations have also suffered a cold winter. In January2021,after Biden took office as US president,he declared that the US would return to the traditional track in foreign policy, made it clear that it would strengthen exchanges and consultations with its allies, and focus on coordination with the EU in its China policy. At present, the Biden administration and the EU have basically reached a consensus on cooperation with China, mainly covering trade and investment, technology blockade, human rights pressure, and military deterrence. This not only changes the foreign policy of underestimating allies in the Trump era,but also means that the relationship between the United States and Europe under Biden will be back on track. In recent years, the EU’s call for "strategic independence" has been increasing, but the contradiction between China and the United States cannot be completely resolved for a while. On the premise of "not taking sides",the EU seeks to play a balancing role between China and the US.Despite the ups and downs,China-EU relations still have resilience and development potential.Whether the Biden administration can "unite Europe and control China" will be constrained by factors such as the perception of China by the United States and Europe, the comparison of power between China and the United States, and the evolution of the global strategic landscape. In the future,China-US-EU trilateral relations will face more uncertainties. |
