| As of January2012, Taiwanese students who study in China’s mainland had accumulated more than30,000. It is worthy to further exploration of Taiwanese Students’acculturation in China’s mainland. The good cultural adaptation would help Taiwanese students to start new life and integration into the country, on the contrary, it may have encountered obstacles in social relationships, learning and even affect mental health.This research focus on the Shanghai and Guangzhou’s Taiwanese college students’ cross-cultural adaptability and influence factors of adaptation, the relationship between cross-cultural adaptability, mental health and personality. In the thesis, the influence of level of cross-cultural adaptability differences on mental health will be included. The differences of cross-cultural adaptability, mental health status, personality of Taiwan college students studying areas, will also be discussed.Research combines qualitative and quantitative methods. First, interviews with12Taiwan individually,6of them in Shanghai and6of them in Guangzhou. Result found that Taiwanese students who study in different city have different adaption problem in basic life, emotional life, cultural and learning/vocational. Students in Shanghai have more climate adaptation problem and students in Guangzhou have more language problem. The qualitative section was collected121Taiwanese students who study in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Taiwan. From the result, Taiwanese students in China’s mainland were better than students in Taiwan on cross-cultural adaptability and mental health status, but lower on the Imtimacy factor of personality traits. The result also found a negative correlation between mental health risk, age and cross-cultural adaptability. Meanwhile, age, gender and sojourn time could be the important indicators and area of intervention of psychological counseling. |
