Comparison Study On Governance Structure Of Universities On Both Sides Of Taiwan Strait

Based on the analysis of university statutes texts,this study explores the governance structure of university by combining qualitative and quantitative methods.The subject of study,i.e.the differences in the governance structure of universities in Chinese mainland and Taiwan,was determined after surveying literature and historical records.This study conducted text analysis on the external and internal governance structures on of 40 universities in Taiwan and Chinese mainland based on their statutes.The purposes are to clarify the problems lying in the governance structure of universities in Chinese mainland according to the comparison results of the differences in governance structures of universities in both sides and the actual situation of university governance;and to propose suggestions for improving the governance structure for universities in Chinese mainland by learning the merits of the governance of Taiwan universities.This study will provide a better understanding of public university statutes on both sides of Taiwan Strait,particularly of the governance structure of modern universities and their diversity,and facilitate the mutual understanding and common development of higher education on both sides,so as to find a breakthrough for university reform and to serve as reference for the next stage of formulation and modification of public university statutes in Chinese mainland.
