| As the further education after college diploma and undergraduate education,postgraduate education,compared with undergraduate education,focuses on cultivating students’ ability to study and analyze problems.It is an important way to cultivate high-level talents with innovative and scientific research ability in China.As the socialism with Chinese characteristics steps into a new era and the quality of the national population has been greatly improved,China has gradually entered the era of popularization of higher education from the era of elite education.The employment market for postgraduates has changed from the seller’s market to the buyer’s market.As a result,more and more postgraduates are unable to find satisfactory jobs.Many related studies have revealed the relationship between academic achievements and job-hunting results.Most of them have been focusing on the influence path.For example,they studied the mechanism using self-efficacy of job-hunting,clarity of job objectives and job search strategy as intermediate variables.However,there is no such relevant research that categorizes this research object group.Considering the different employment environments for postgraduates of liberal arts and sciences,this paper discusses only the relationship between the academic achievements and the job-hunting results of postgraduates of liberal arts.With reference to the literature at home and abroad and under the guidance of my tutor,I have prepared a Questionnaire on the Academic Achievements and Job-hunting Results of Postgraduates of Liberal Arts,and distributed it to the academic postgraduates of liberal arts graduated this year or previous years from three universities in Wuhan.The data have been collected and used for statistical analysis.The results show that:(i)The employment situation of postgraduates of liberal arts is not ideal,their overall employment rate is lower than the average level of postgraduates,and the employment situation will only be grimmer year by year.The employment results of postgraduates of liberal arts have little to do with their personal demographic characteristics,and gender,age,nationality,home address,undergraduate institutions,and postgraduate institutions have little impact on the employment results of this group;(ii)The employment results of postgraduates of liberal arts have a significant relationship with their academic success.Thus,to improve their employment results,postgraduates of liberal arts can start with improving their academic achievements;(iii)Academic curriculum performance plays no significant role in finding a job,but once they find a job,it will be reflected in the labor market through the starting salary,job satisfaction and the matching degree between jobs and majors,and especially it may determines their starting salary.(iv)Extracurricular performance has a significant impact on whether they will receive an offer,and it also helps postgraduates of liberal arts to broaden the scope of employment,but the impact is weaker than learning dedication and learning performance;(v)Learning dedication is the most important factor for employers to evaluate whether they will hire the candidates or not;(vi)Learning performance is the decisive factor to improve employment satisfaction.Postgraduates of liberal arts may also achieve the goal through enhancing their academic curriculum performance and learning dedication.(vii)The correlation between their majors during undergraduate and postgraduate studies determines the matching degree between their jobs and their majors,but improving the academic performance and learning dedication can increase the matching degree,and improving the extracurricular performance can broaden the scope of employment. |
