| With the development of China’s society and the increasingly serious problem of population aging, the social structure model with the traditional big family as the main body is gradually disintegrating, and the nuclear family has gradually become the main way of the current social structure. After the sudden loss of a spouse, the elderly living in rural areas are easily influenced by the rural environment and personal growth experience, which can easily lead to their irrational beliefs.Under the control of this irrational belief, the widowed old people tend to have spiritual consolation problems. In this paper, rational emotional behavior therapy is used as the main intervention method of social work case study, and professor mu guangzong’s three dimensions of the definition of spiritual consolation are used as the research focus to conduct a spiritual consolation study on the rural elderly widows. This paper collects the data of the client through the methods of observation and interview, makes a qualitative analysis and conducts an intervention study according to the service process of social work cases.First of all, through case reception and problem assessment to determine the problem of the client mainly exists in the spiritual comfort level. Then, rational emotion-behavioral therapy was identified as the main intervention method and a case service plan was developed.Thirdly,at the stage of case intervention, the client’s concerns are determined through interviews and dialogues. Finally, the cognitive, emotional and behavioral skills of rational emotional behavioral therapy are used to distinguish and refute the irrational emotions of the client,so as to rebuild the rational emotions and solve the spiritual consolation problems of the client.Through the evaluation of the service process and effect of this case, the following conclusions and reflections are drawn: the intervention of rational emotional behavior therapy in the spiritual consolation of the rural aged and widowed elderly can solve the psychological problems of the client from the cognitive level, which is conducive to helping the client to establish the correct rational belief. In the process of case intervention,we should pay attention to the positive supporting role of the client’s informal social support network resources to the client’s spiritual consolation. In the course of social work cases, the ethical relationship between the social worker and the client should be properly handled to avoid the client’s transference.Rational emotional-behavioral therapy should fully consider the cognitive differences of irrational beliefs caused by different eastern and western cultures when it is applied in China. |
