A Study On Maternal Parenting Stress And Problem Behaviors Of Mentally Retarded Children In Grandfather-mother Co-parenting

Due to the particularity of Chinese cultural background,it is a common and long-standing phenomenon for grandparents and mothers to raise children with intellectual disability.However,children with mental retardation have certain emotional problem behaviors at birth.If such problem behaviors continue to appear in later development,they will not only increase the pressure of the mother,but also affect the physical and mental health of the children,and even cause their insufficient social adaptability in adulthood.Therefore,in this study and analysis of related literatures,on the basis of using common parenting relationship scale,mother’s parenting stress scale and the strengths and difficulties questionnaire to survey 332 mental retardation children mother,raising relationship analysis grandparents-mother,parenting stress and mental retardation children’s problem behaviors of present situation and the related relationship,combined with the interview as a validation of quantitative research,supplement and develop,finally put forward the corresponding suggestion.This study draws the following conclusions:(1)In terms of grandparent’s co-parenting,the overall tendency is to support the co-parenting relationship.There are significant differences between grandparent and mother’s co-parenting in terms of mother’s educational level,mother’s employment status,grandparent’s type and family economic status.In terms of maternal rearing pressure,the overall score presented a high stress value,and there were significant differences in maternal rearing pressure in terms of mother’s educational level,mother’s employment status,grandparent’s type,one-child status of children,and family economic status.(2)There was a significant negative correlation between grandfather-mother co-parenting and maternal parenting pressure.There was a significant negative correlation between grandfather-mother co-parenting and children’s problem behaviors.There was a significant positive correlation between maternal parenting stress and children’s problem behavior.Parenting closeness can significantly negatively predict maternal parenting stress,while conflict exposure can significantly positively predict maternal parenting stress.Parenting support can significantly negatively predict children’s problem behaviors,while conflict exposure can significantly positively predict children’s problem behaviors.(3)Maternal parenting pressure plays a completely mediating role between grandfather-mother co-parenting and problem behaviors of mentally disabled children,that is,the influence of grandfather-mother co-parenting on problem behaviors of mentally disabled children is indirectly generated through the mediating role of maternal parenting pressure.(4)Through interviews further understand that mental retardation children family grandparents-mother raising involved with the auxiliary role in the process of the grandparents,mother’s education is the main influence factors of the development of children’s behavior,division and raising relations of cooperation,nurturing support,raising a conflict affects the mother feel pressure,and further affect the child’s behavior.Therefore,the family is the closest environment for children to grow up and come into contact with.To create a supportive co-parenting relationship is a positive way to reduce the pressure of mother’s upbringing and children’s problem behaviors.
