| In the era of knowledge economy,the demand for economic development based on knowledge and innovation as the driving force has stimulated the demand for higher education all over the world.The worldwide mobility of international students for academic degrees has become normal status of higher education system.China’s education modernization 2035,issued by the CPC central committee and the state council,aims to build China into a global education powerhouse with important international influence,attract outstanding international students to study in China,and make China an important destination for overseas students in the world.However,against the backdrop of rising trade protectionism and unilateralism around the world and the twists and turns of economic globalization,the trend of international student flows around the world has become more difficult to predict.For China’s higher education,which is fully open to the outside world in the new era,challenges and opportunities coexist.Therefore,the perspective of future research needs to be shifted to the influencing factors of students’ diploma education in China,attract more international students studying in China for academic degrees,optimize the educational structure and levels of international students in China,and promote the connotative development of international education in China.This study used push-pull theory,human capital theory,cultural capital theory and international migration theory as theoretical analysis basis to build a conceptual framework for analysis influence factors on scales of international students with academic education.Based on the panel data of China and 60 major countries of origin of international students in2007-2016,the data of international students with academic education from different countries were taken as explanatory variables,and the economic and educational data between China and other countries were taken as explanatory variables Based on the Hausman test results,the fixed effect model in econometrics was selected to test the influence of various factors on international students’ receiving academic education in China.In addition,by dividing the data according to the level of education and the type of country,the study further examined the heterogeneous impact of various factors on students with different levels of education and different types of countries receiving academic degree education in China.The empirical results of this study showed that the economic development differences between China and the countries of origin,the degree of bilateral trade links,the level of Internet openness,the international ranking of Chinese universities,Chinese government scholarships,Confucius Institutes,cultural factors and environmental quality had significantpositive effects on the scale of students coming to China for academic degree education.Geographical distance had a significant negative impact on international students who were pursuing academic degree education in China.The estimated results of heterogeneity of different educational levels showed that Chinese government scholarship and cultural factors had a significant positive impact on international students’ access to graduate education in China.According to the results of country type grouping estimation,Confucius Institute had a significant positive impact on students from developed countries to receive academic degree education in China;the level of Internet opening up had a significant positive impact on students from developing countries to receive academic degree education in China.Based on the empirical analysis results,this study gave policy suggestions from the following aspects: The Chinese government can reasonably open work visas for international students to receive academic degree education in China,and provide more job opportunities for overseas students with academic degrees.Universities can play the role of Confucius Institute’s platform for cultural exchange between China and foreign countries,and enhance the experience of Chinese culture for international students.The educational departments including universities should continue to promote the connotation development of academic degree education,and improve the Chinese government scholarship system.Universities can effectively combine the advantages of regional human settlement environment quality to attract international students to receive academic degree education in China,and use the advantages of the Internet to innovate propaganda methods for overseas recruitment. |
