Household Chaos And Children’s Withdrawal

Social withdrawal behavior generally refers to children’s behavior pattern of being alone in a familiar or unfamiliar environment.As a kind of internalized problem behavior,it has become a risk factor that threatens children’s current and future development.Studies in related fields have confirmed that social withdrawal behavior has negative effects on children’s cognitive,behavioral,social emotional and other aspects of development,and early social withdrawal behavior can significantly predict future various problem behavior tendencies.Therefore,in order to reduce the incidence of social withdrawal behavior and promote children’s social development,it is necessary to deeply explore the development mechanism of children’s social withdrawal behavior.The Developmental Contextualism Theory points out that individual development is an open and living system,and individuals achieve development through interaction with their environment.Existing studies have confirmed that the formation of children’s social withdrawal behavior is not the result of a single factor,but by the interaction of internal and external factors.On the basis of the view,this study intends to explore the influence of household chaos(a distant environment)on children’s social withdrawal behavior,then introduce parental psychological control(a proximal environment)and children’s behavior inhibition(children’s temperamental characteristic)as mediating and regulating variables respectively,so as to deeply reveal the developmental mechanism of children’s social withdrawal behavior.The main objectives of this study are:(1)To investigate the relationship between household chaos and children’s social withdrawal behavior.(2)To investigate the role of parental psychological control and behavioral inhibition between household chaos and children’s social withdrawal behavior.In this study,three kindergartens(1 in Jinan and 2 in Taian)were selected from Jinan and Taian.A total of 806 children’s parents were selected as the research subjects.Children’s social withdrawal behavior,household chaos,parental psychological control,and behavioral inhibition were assessed using parental reporting,and then further explore the relationship between the four variables.The conclusions are as follows:(1)Children’s social withdrawal behavior does not show significant difference in children’s grades,gender and whether or not only child.(2)Household chaos can directly predict children’s social withdrawal behavior,and can also indirectly predict children’s social withdrawal behavior through father or mother’s psychological control.In other words,both father’s and mother’s psychological control can play a mediating role between household chaos and social withdrawal behavior.(3)Children’s behavioral inhibition can regulate the second half path of the mediating mechanism,so the moderating mediating model is established.Specifically,for the children with high behavioral inhibition,the psychological control level of the father or mother can positively predict children’s social withdrawal behavior,but for the children with low behavioral inhibition,the psychological control level of the father or mother cannot significantly predict children’s social withdrawal behavior.
